Note to Brodie’s new foster: Brodie is crazy about pig hooves, so be sure to get those for him. He also loves rawhide – I gave him strips, but he also likes the bones with knots on either end and most likely any other shape. He doesn’t seem interested in bully sticks. I gave him pork strips a couple times as a treat. I taught him to eat peanuts from the shell and he really likes them. I was teaching him to chew his treats on an old bath towel on the floor, and he seemed to be getting it, so you may want to keep working on that with him because it will help contain the mess...keep the towel in the same place and always give him his treats or chew items on the towel – if he moves off the towel, put him back on it or take the chew item away and give it back to him on the towel. I had him lay down before he got his treats. I made him sit before he got his collar put on, before he went out the door for a walk, before he got his food, and sometimes before I put down his water bowl. Outside, he is good about doing his business in the woods or in leaves, which is very helpful since you don’t have to pick it up. He needs to pee fairly frequently, so take him out often (he drinks a lot of water). He’s great about going into his crate – before I left in the morning I put him in his crate with his large Kong filled with bits of dog biscuit and peanut butter at the opening – he enjoyed that. I fed him Nutro Natural Choice chicken with rice (small bites) and he ate it up every time. He’s a messy eater and drinker so you might want to put a small towel under his bowls. If you have a window at his viewing level, he loves to watch squirrels from inside the house. I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but those are the main things – Brodie is a fantastic dog and will thrive with a lot of exercise, training, and love...you will enjoy his company and get so much love in return.
